LTA and TNC: towards joint efforts to protect Lake Tanganyika

The collaboration area includes exploring opportunities to share resources on collaborative projects, in matters relating to fisheries management and environmental conservation through cooperative efforts.

LTA LogoTNC LogoOn Tuesday, 19th June, 2012, a new partneship has been initied by the Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA) and the The Nature Conservancy (TNC). The LTA reprensented by the Executive Director, Dr. Henry MWIMA and the TNC represented by the Senior Freshwater Conservation Adviser, Mr. Colin Apse, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) related to a collaboration to ensure Fisheries Management and Environmental Conservation on Lake Tanganyika.

LTA&TNC MoUThe MoU is extended to a period of  three (3) years and may be renewed to last for another mutually agreed term.  

According to Dr. Henry MWIMA, ED of LTA, the collaboration area includes exploring opportunities to share resources on collaborative projects, in matters relating to fisheries management and environmental conservation through cooperative efforts: Beach Management Unit Development; Research, Monitoring, and Assessment; Cross Sector Engagement and Development Objectives and Joint Fundraising.
