Under the high patronage of His Excellency Second Vice President of Republic of Burundi, the Ministry of Water and Environment of the Republic of Burundi, the Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA), the Burundi National NGO Greenbelt Action for the Environment (ACVE), the African Development Bank Project - PRODAP Burundi, the Germany Water Project - GIZ PROSECEAU, the NGO Pays De La Loire and the NGO King Mwezi Gisabo Fundation are organising the celebration of Lake Tanganyika Day 2012 on this 20 - 21st July, 2012 at Rumonge, South of Republic of Burundi.
The Burundian population is concerned about environmental threats to the lake including pollution. The government of Burundi and the three other riparian countries are working together in undertaking actions to ensure an effective protection of water quality and biodiversity in the lake.
The theme of the 2012 Edition is " LAKE TANGANYIKA, A TREASURE TO BE PROTECTED ".
